Innovation Research Analyst

The Innovation Research section is responsible for undertaking applied innovation, entrepreneurship and policy research, and provides advice to support the Department’s strategic objectives and its evidence-based policy development. The section produces the Australian Innovation System Report, which is one of the department’s flagship reports.

The position of innovation research analyst requires a highly organised, self-motivated and focused research analyst who has the ability to work well in a research team. The candidate will undertake research work to support the business plan of the innovation research section.

Main Functions of the Position

Key tasks include:

  • Undertaking high quality, high impact quantitative analysis and research that supports the section’s business plan
  • Support the production and delivery of the Australian Innovation System report
  • Preparing briefs and other advice materials for external stakeholders including the Minister
  • Liaise with internal and external stakeholders
  • Managing research projects and databases

Eligibility

  • Demonstrated high proficiency with statistical software, for example: R, STATA
  • Demonstrated experience in quantitative research

Skills and Abilities

  • Demonstrated skills in data management and applied statistics/econometrics
  • High proficiency with statistical software, for example: R or STATA
  • Demonstrated judgement and skills in project management, particularly delivering high impact/high value research projec
  • Excellent written, communication visual and oral
  • Experience in innovation, industry or science policy is desirable
