We’re hiring full-time and trainee data journalists Come and join The Economist’s quantitative-journalism department December 16th 2020 The Economist has always distinguished itself for numeracy and analytical rigour. Our data-journalism team conducts original quantitative research, deploying cutting-edge statistical methods to ask and answer important, relevant questions about politics, economics and society. We are looking to hire two data journalists: one experienced candidate for a full-time, permanent position, and one promising candidate for a six-month traineeship. We hope the chosen candidate can join us soon, but can accommodate a later start date if necessary.   Full-time data journalist Job description Regularly conduct research and write articles for all sections of the newspaper, both in print and online. Particular emphasis will be placed on contributions to the print Graphic Detail section and to our online Daily Chart, working closely with our data-visualisation department Edit the print Graphic Detail page when necessary, including supervision of data journalists’ statistical research, editing their articles and approving the visualisation Collaborate with beat journalists on longer stories that combine original statistical research with conventional reporting Duration Permanent, full-time staff position Location London preferred. The Opportunity As a statistician, you will advocate statistical principles, working collaboratively with scientists to provide expert advice on statistical methodologies, the interpretation of statistical findings and the design of experiments. This position will fully utilise your skills and encourage career development. Use your experience and knowledge of statistical consulting to contribute to science discovery in New Zealand.
